A Rainy Wedding Day That Led to Lake DeGray Wedding Photos

Rain on a wedding day is one of those things you can’t plan for, but sometimes, it leads to something even better. Malek and Austyn Hearnsberger’s wedding day was rainy from start to finish. While the weather changed the timeline, it didn’t change the heart of the day. Instead of forcing portraits into less-than-ideal conditions, we chose to create post-wedding couples photos at Lake DeGray.

Why Lake DeGray State Park Was Meaningful to Them

Lake DeGray holds years of memories for Malek and Austyn from their college days. It’s a place tied to their relationship long before their wedding day, which made it the perfect setting for these portraits. As an Arkansas wedding photographer, I always encourage couples to choose locations that mean something to them. Meaningful places create photos that feel honest and timeless.

The Veil, The Sunlight, and a Little Mud

Austyn brought along a floor-length veil just for this session, and it was worth every snagged step. As the sunlight broke through, the veil caught the light beautifully against the lake. And yes — we walked through mud to get these photos. Malek and Austyn leaned fully into the experience, trusting the process and embracing the adventure. Those moments always lead to the most honest images.

Planning an Arkansas Wedding With Weather in Mind

Rainy wedding days don’t mean missed memories. Post-wedding photos are a great option for couples who want relaxed portraits without time pressure. If you’re planning outdoor Arkansas wedding photos and worried about weather, flexibility can lead to something even better than what you originally imagined.
